We have a number of requirements that use ILT on AD Sites to get different results in different geographical locations but that is rather small. The question would be how much actual performance improvement would we get going from 200 GPO's 50. If it would lead to substantial improvement, even 25% that would be worth the effort, but if not then losing the ability to target a specific GPO that takes care of one area without the risk of accidentally effecting other things might make the administrative trouble shooting of GPO issues worth the performance hit.
In any case this is a great article and the methods shown to actually set up measurements should prove very helpful.

thank you!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6651313754316039486.post-12930642770245725122016-02-13T18:09:18.558+01:002016-02-13T18:09:18.558+01:00Roland, it's not about DISK access, but about ...Roland, it's not about DISK access, but about SMB access to files in the GPO sysvol folder - this eats up performance.

The WMI filter blocks the whole GPO at once, which is what we desire from time to time. ILT on the other hand filters out a single item in GPP, so if we do the same ILT on 200 GPP items, we'd better use a WMI filter for the GPO over all :)Martin Binderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10868219832141484922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6651313754316039486.post-59650838156508443302016-02-09T20:23:52.185+01:002016-02-09T20:23:52.185+01:00Hi Martin,

This article explained it perfectly. Thank you!

But I wonder if the disk access penalty is really that severe. Sure for the first time access there is a cost, but afterwards the GP should be cached in memory so no disk access, yes?Roland Thomasnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6651313754316039486.post-60585427648503298692014-12-02T09:26:42.288+01:002014-12-02T09:26:42.288+01:00Nice series, thanks for taking the timeNice series, thanks for taking the timeCarlnoreply@blogger.com
